You Don't Like To Inflict Pain

You don’t like to ‘inflict pain’
Well…I’m afraid it’s inevitable
I could lean across the table
And cut it from you
Freely, with a fillet knife, if you’d like.

You’ll find false love is sticky
Hard to pull away from cleanly
It claws and burrows into your flesh
However post operatively you won’t believe
How little it hurts,
But oh, how big the threat!

You can tear the wound by hand
Or sharpen the knife
One is ultimately kind
The other begets more strife;
Why prolong the agony?

You don’t like to ‘inflict pain’
I know, I know, take a 3, 5, 10 year view
What do you really want?
Is this relationship going to get there with you?

Stop acting like some Deity
As if you had the power to stop pain anyhow
Why are you even carrying that idea around?
All you’re doing is deferring,
And that, mere man
Is completely human.
